Mondello

A sandy beach with shallow water, the easiest choice with children. Paid umbrellas and sunbeds in summer.

Palazzo d'Orléans gardens (with animals)

The gardens of the Region's Presidency are home to exotic parrots, storks, flamingos and pink pelicans; the City also mentions fawns. A quiet walk to enjoy slowly, families included. Rules: no dogs (guide dogs excepted), bicycles, scooters, skates, balls or kites; do not feed the animals; children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Botanical Garden

A shady garden with big trees and unusual plants, good for a long walk. Look for children's activities on the website.

Villa Giulia and Giardino Inglese

City parks to run around and rest in the shade between sights.

Puppet Museum

Kids like the puppets. The museum offers shows and workshops: check the calendar.

A day on Ustica

Clear sea and boat trips, but the crossing takes about 1 hour 30: with little ones plan a full day.

  • The old town has narrow pavements and cobbles: a light stroller works best.
  • In summer go out early and seek shade in the middle of the day.
  • Child discounts at museums: ask, but check prices on each museum's own website.
